Winter is here! Join us from Feb 17 to Feb 23 for a journey into the raw and enigmatic world of Swedish winter – where the snow lies as a crystal blanket, covering the life that is waiting to be born anew.
Through direct experience and skills practice this journey welcomes you into the learning of winter skills in bushcraft, outdoor living, wilderness experience and nature connection.
Facilitated by: Inte Koster, Silas Beardslee and Johan Eliasson
Sami tradition speaks of the year that counts 8 seasons, of which one is called ‘spring-winter’. This journey will embrace the cusp of winter’s end and springs arrival as the very first signs of ‘spring-Winter’ start to show. At this time of the year the seemingly endless darkness just noticeably begins to make way for the returning light, and the first signs of life start to appear in the tiniest places. It is a time of subtle change, but change that will inevitably give way to a great transformation.
Two small and basic huts will give us shelter and warmth throughout the five days. From these huts we will journey out by ski’s to learn, connect and discover through skills, story, listening, sharing and being with ourselves, one another and the world around us.
Alongside discovering and meeting the winter world around us, we will spend time with our inner worlds looking at the stories that we live by, individually and collectively. What are the stories I live by? Which are the beliefs that create these stories? Which ones serve, still, and which ones do not?
When we start looking at the stories that we have told ourselves throughout our lives, or the ones that we tell ourselves everyday, we can start to discover insights and potential patterns. We can find how those stories have brought us to the present moment and explore if they empower us, or whether we feel held back, restrained and limited by these stories we’ve taken as truth. And as the seasonal cycle guides us closer to the birth of spring, we, too, are invited to shed the old and give life to the new.
This journey is for anyone 18 years and older, who is longing for deep experience and a strengthened confidence in outdoor living, who is curious to learn from, with and about themselves, others and their surroundings. It is for anyone who is eager to meet the joy, magic beauty, challenge and teachings of the Swedish “springwinter”, where the cold will challenge us to create warmth within and around us, and the darkness will ask us to notice the light that we carry with us always.
