5 – 7 July 2024, Edsåsdalen, Jämtland, Sweden

We’re headed out on A Shepherds Journey!

For 3 days and two nights we’ll be out with the flock of sheep – as shepherds have done throughout time. Together with the flock we will walk out into the valley and to the mountain pastures where we will reside, live, and be for two nights while the sheep graze the nutritious pastures from the mountain lands.

We herd the sheep, cook over the open fire, go out on a straw in the area, possibly walk up a mountain with those feeling a little extra energized and adventurous, carve and tinker, learn bushcraft tricks and skills, and explore herding life through experience, exploration and stories.

Throughout time, people have traveled and lived with sheep in exposed lands to protect them from predators and other dangers. Just by our presence, we contribute to the animals’ existence as we create a safe and secure environment for the sheep to be and graze in. The sheep benefit nature through their gazing and thus contribute to better diversity and healthier lands. Herding is a way that we, as humans, can contribute to and benefit the health of nature, just by ensuring that the sheep get to graze in peace and quiet.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION –

The Hike:
The first and largest part of the journey is on a gravel road. The last 2 km follow a path up to Nordbottnen Föbodvall, where we will be staying.
We offer the possibility to borrow all-terrain strollers (Rambler Walkingwagon) for children as well as transport assistance for those who find it more difficult to carry their own pack all the way. For the last stretch we join the forces available to get both gear and people up to our camp site.

Gear: We create a base camp for the two nights and will be sleeping in tents. There are some places available in the basic fäbodvall-cabin.
Participants are responsible for their own backpack, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, eating utensils and personal equipment.
We provide group-gear such as fire equipment incl. axes and saws, cooking equipment, tarps for the common area, etc.

Equipment such as tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats and backpacks can be rented.

Safety: Every participant is responsible for their own personal travel insurance.

Food: We provide common breakfast, lunch and dinner for all days – organic meals that can be adapted to special diets and allergies if necessary.
Snacks are arranged by each individually.

A rough workshop-outline:
Day 1: Arrival, herding the flock up-valley, make camp and settle in.
Day 2: Base-camp and outing activities such as bush-craft skills, crafting, hike up a mountain, games, etc.
